Buyers for small mineral interests exist, but most buyer sites never say whether they want one. Of 148 buyer, broker and listing sites in a public directory of mineral buyers, 40 make any statement about the size of interest they buy and 108 say nothing on the pages read (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026). Of those that do, Berlin Royalties says it has No minimum. We buy interests worth a few hundred dollars (Berlin Royalties, Oct 2026).

This page lists every buyer whose own site states a size it buys, sorted into those that name a small figure or no minimum, those that say any size, and those that set a floor or prefer larger deals, each quoted word for word. It then shows why fees weigh most on small sales. Small here is this page's sorting term, not an industry standard. American Mineral Registry, which publishes this page, also buys; it is ranked and marked in the shortlist below, never in the counts.

  • US Mineral Exchange adds its 6% on top of the price, paid by the buyer (US Mineral Exchange, Sep 2026).
  • Only 6 of the 32 small-interest buyer sites say offers are in writing (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026).

Which three buyers fit a small interest?

Three buyers whose own words cover small interests. The first is ranked as a small-interest specialist, American Mineral Registry for taking nothing out of the price in every state, and the third for buying regardless of size; each one's own site shows where it stops.

Which buyers set a floor or prefer larger deals?

Of 148 buyer sites in a public directory, 40 make an explicit size statement and 108 say nothing about size on the pages read
Figure 3: Nearly three quarters of buyer sites never say what size of interest they buy. Source: AMR review of Valor's mineral buyer directory, Oct 2026. Drawn by American Mineral Registry from the cited source, checked October 8, 2026.

What if a buyer's site says nothing about size?

Ask in writing before sending documents; 108 of 148 directory sites give no size at all (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026).

  • Of the 148 directory buyer sites, 40 make an explicit statement about the size they buy and 108 make none on the pages read (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026).
  • Four further sites use size words only in a founder story, an investor pitch, a staff biography or a general explainer, and are not sorted (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026).

What does selling a small interest cost?

Proportionally more at an auction with a minimum fee. A $1,500 minimum commission is 30% of a $5,000 sale, while routes where the buyer pays the fee take nothing from the price.

EnergyNet commission as a share of price: 30% of a $5,000 sale at the $1,500 minimum, 15% of $10,000 and $25,000, 10% of $100,000
Figure 4: The minimum commission doubles the auction's share of a $5,000 sale compared with a $10,000 one. Source: EnergyNet (Efficient Markets) Seller's Agreement, Exhibit C, Jul 2026. Drawn by American Mineral Registry from the cited source, checked October 8, 2026.

How do auction fees fall on small sales?

A fixed minimum makes them heavier the smaller the sale.

Which routes take nothing from a small price?

Routes where the buyer pays the commission or the closing costs.

  • US Mineral Exchange adds a 6% commission on top of the agreed price, paid by the buyer at closing (US Mineral Exchange, Sep 2026).
  • Berlin Royalties says it pays all closing costs, title work and recording fees and that the accepted offer is the amount received (Berlin Royalties, Oct 2026).

Every route's published fees are compared in mineral rights sale fees.

What do small-interest buyers say about speed and paperwork?

Most publish a closing time, and a few say small deals close faster. Only 6 of the 32 say their offers are in writing.

What the 32 small-interest buyers also publish: closing time 25, time to offer 20, documents 20, title work 20, heirs 19, partial purchases 17, costs 16, written offers 6
Figure 5: Small-interest buyers publish closing times far more often than they say offers come in writing. Source: AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026. Drawn by American Mineral Registry from the cited source, checked October 8, 2026.

  • Nineteen of the 32 say something about heirs or estates, a common source of small fractional interests (AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026).

Comparing two offers on the same terms is covered in compare mineral rights offers.

Where do small-interest buyers say they buy?

Figure 6: Half of the small-interest buyers name Texas or say they buy nationwide. Source: AMR buyer ledger, Oct 2026. Drawn by American Mineral Registry from the cited source, checked October 8, 2026.

Methodology and Sources

AMR read the sites of every entry in Valor's public mineral buyer directory, 289 names, on October 8, 2026, plus the buyers on AMR's own list and ten found by targeted search; 148 directory entries had a reachable site of a company that buys, brokers, auctions or lists mineral interests. A buyer is listed only where its own page states a size it buys, quoted word for word and matched against the saved page, and sorted by what that quote says. Small is this page's sorting term; no firm's minimum is inferred from a form or a slogan. Fee arithmetic applies each route's published terms. American Mineral Registry also buys; it appears only in the shortlist at the top of the page, marked as the publisher, never in the counts.

Glossary

  • Minimum: the smallest interest or price a buyer says it will consider.
  • Fractional interest: a share of the minerals smaller than the whole tract, often from inheritance.
  • Commission: a percentage of the price paid to the route that arranged the sale.
  • Minimum commission: a fixed fee charged when the percentage would come to less.
  • Gross sales price: the price before the seller's commission and fees.
  • Net offer: a price the seller receives after every fee the route charges.
  • Producing royalty: a royalty that pays monthly checks now.
  • Closing: the day the deed is signed and the money is released.
