Landman Degree Programs: Every AAPL Accredited School and Certification (2026)
Landman degree programs are few, and the profession accredits them itself: the American Association of Professional Landmen lists ten bachelor’s and four graduate programs. Here is each one from its university’s own page, with the certifications a landman earns after school.
Where to look first
A landman negotiates leases, runs title and handles the business side of land for oil and gas companies and mineral owners. There is no license, so the profession sets its own standard: the American Association of Professional Landmen accredits university programs and awards three certifications.
| Question | Answer |

How we checked
Every program below was read on its own page or filing on October 5, 2026, and each figure is given as that source states it. Nothing here is paid placement, and AMR earns nothing from any organization listed.
The accredited list is AAPL’s own, read on October 5, 2026; each program was then read on its university’s page. Four of AAPL’s links were out of date, and where a school’s current page names its program differently, the table says so.

Common questions
What degree do you need to be a landman?
None is required by law. AAPL’s Registered Landman needs no degree; the Certified Professional Landman requires a bachelor’s, and an accredited program shortens the experience needed.
Can you get a landman degree online?
Not among the accredited bachelor’s programs, by their own pages. OU’s Master of Legal Studies is online, and PETEX and MSU Denver offer online certificates.
Which schools are AAPL accredited?
The ten in this list and four graduate programs: OU Law, Texas Tech, TCU and Tulsa.
What is the difference between RL, RPL and CPL?
They are AAPL’s three levels: RL for those starting out, RPL after five credit years and an exam, CPL after ten credit years with a degree and an exam.
Summary
Ten universities hold AAPL accreditation for a bachelor’s path into land work, most of them in producing states. The law a landman works with every day, state by state, is in AMR’s Mineral Rights by State.
