Royalty Owners Associations: National and State Groups for Mineral Owners (2026)

Royalty owners associations give mineral owners what a single owner lacks: a voice at the legislature, education and other owners to ask. Here is the national association, its seven chapters and the state groups with working sites, each read on its own site.

Where to look first

Royalty owners have one national association and a handful of state groups. Some speak only for mineral and royalty owners, some for surface owners, and one for producers and owners together; which one fits depends on what you own and where.

Groups whose own sites no longer work were left out, among them several Kansas, Oklahoma and Ohio owner groups whose domains have lapsed. Producer only industry associations and Canadian groups are not included.

Common questions

What is the national royalty owners association?

The National Association of Royalty Owners, NARO, founded in 1980, with seven state and regional chapters.

Is there a royalty owners association in Texas?

Yes: the Texas Land & Mineral Owners Association, NARO’s Texas chapter, and, in the Panhandle, the Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owners Association.

What does membership cost?

From nothing for TLMA students to $260 a year for an individual in PPROA; NARO is $75 the first year and $150 after.

Do these groups help with a problem with my operator?

Most offer education and member networks, and NARO runs a referral network; none is a law firm, so a dispute still needs an attorney.

Summary

Start with NARO and the chapter for your state, then look at the state group where you own minerals. For the law each group lobbies on, see AMR’s Mineral Rights by State.
