Oil and Gas Lease Sales: Where Every Federal and State Sale and Its Results Are Published (2026)

Oil and gas lease sales are where public agencies auction the minerals they own, and their results are the only public record of what companies pay to lease. Here is every federal and major state sale, how often it is held and where the results are posted.

Where to look first

Federal and state agencies lease the minerals they own at public auctions, and they publish who bid and what was paid. Those results are a public record of what companies pay to lease minerals in a given county, which is why journalists, analysts and landmen follow them.

How we checked

Every agency below was read on its own page or filing on October 5, 2026, and each figure is given as that source states it. Nothing here is paid placement, and AMR earns nothing from any organization listed.

Colorado, Utah and Michigan refuse visitors from outside the United States, so their rows rely on archived copies of their own pages, dated in the table. Efficient Markets and EnergyNet are the same platform under its new and old names, and agency pages use both.

Common questions

How often does BLM hold oil and gas lease sales?

Quarterly in each state office when parcels are available, with Wyoming’s four 2026 dates published in advance.

Where can I see BLM lease sale results?

On each state office’s lease sale page and its ePlanning project pages, linked above, and in the National Fluid Lease Sale System.

Do state land offices publish who bid?

Most post results as PDFs after each sale; Colorado’s State Land Board posts names within seven business days, by its archived page.

Does a federal lease sale tell me what my private minerals would lease for?

Only as a guide. Results show what companies paid for nearby public tracts, which is often the closest public figure to a private lease bonus.

Summary

Public lease sales are the one place lease prices are published, from BLM’s quarterly sales to New Mexico’s monthly one. For the royalty those leases carry, see AMR’s royalty rates list.
